Each week of summer is an opportunity for you to learn something new.  Check here each week for fun ideas on how to make your summer reading exciting!

Week 1:  June 26 - July 2

This is the first week of summer vacation!  So lets celebrate summer!

  • Make a list of things you want to do this summer.
  • Make a chart to keep track of all of the books you read this summer.  Check out "Summer Reading Suggestions" to find out how to earn prizes and books while you read this summer.
  • Swap books with a friend.  Keep sharing books throughout the summer.
  • Take a walk around the neighborhood.  Write down the things that you see that show that summer is here and use them to write a poem or draw them.
  • Start a summer scrapbook.  Include pictures, ticket stubs, lyrics of your favorite songs from the summer and projects that you work on during the summer.

Week 2:  July 3 - July 9

Stay in touch with your friends and family!

  • Decorate your own paper and write a letter to a friend.
  • Start a journal with a friend or family member.  Take turns writing back and forth in the journal.
  • Invent a code (A=1, B=2, for example) and send a message in code to a friend.  Ask your friend to respond back to you in code.
  • Write a letter to your favorite author.  Ask them questions about their books and how they get their ideas!
